The Sea Girt is a mostly intact clammer that sank in the late 1980's. While dredging for clams, the dredges caught on the iron pipes that were dropped by the wood barge wreck. The Sea Girt flipped onto it's side and sank almost immediately with most of it's crew still on board. Luckily for the few survivors, the captain had his cell phone in his pocket as he climbed out of the ship's bridge. He was able to get out a distress call, and the Coast Guard was able to rescue him and a couple of crew men. Though most of the crew went down with the ship, divers that attempted to recover the bodies did not find anyone left on board.
This is a great wreck for students or advanced divers. Good fishing and occasional lobsters. During late summer and fall, tropical fish may be seen here, especially trigger fish.
